A Foot in Two Worlds

Most people who migrate, talk about living in two worlds - culturally and mentally. You never lose your background - it stays with you, like your shadow. Even grandchildren will display the values, attitudes and ethics inherited from their grandparents - through their behaviours and life choices. 

Of course, all those Dutchies are New Zealanders, but there's something about them that sets them apart. We talk about that in Oranjehof. It's our sense of humour. But also the love of colour, our longing for homeliness or gezelligheid, and a certain stubbornness that makes us achieve things - sometimes against all odds.
